Drawing in and out of Florence
So I was originally planning to do three 10 hour drawings, but this one 18"X24"project took a lot longer than expected and filled up the 30 hours required. (It may not look like it, but it took forever with the layers and blending). I wanted to do a vintage poster advertising traveling Italy, and what better place to advertise than my favorite: Cinque Terre!? I haven't worked a lot with pastels so it was kind of an experiement at the same time. I even used vintage pastels that were my mom's when she was a little girl. :)
Detail:
Other drawings from Italy: Michelangelo's David, Fiesole arches, and the taxadermy animals :)
Let's go back to freakin' Italy guys! Can't wait to see everyone again!

Final Project Hooray!
For my final project I was also able to decide what I wanted to do. My picture is of a tree, which is the tree of life. It has seven circles which are the seven chakras that bring balance to life. The wording on the picture is in sanskrit, and it means "Tree of Life". It is a relief print which I carved into Linoleum.
Drawing Final
In Italy, Jay and Alyssandra wanted to see me do more figure work, and composition; hence, that was my focus of my final. I decided to take my cousin's engagement pictures and do a trip-tic for their wedding present. To my surprise, the outside panels alone took 30+ hours, so I'm turning in the two panels today, and completing the center panel over the next two weeks. Each outside panel is 12"by 18" with .25" border.
Enjoy!
So here's my project. Since I was in Senior Seminar I did my own project. I decided to design Theseus and the Minotaur and here is the result.
The basic story:
Theseus is the son of the king of Athens, and Athens has a deal with Crete to send 7 guys and 7 gals to Crete every year to be sacrificed to the Minotaur. Theseus volunteers to be one of the guys with the intent of killing the Minotaur. When he arrives, Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos falls in love with him and gives him a ball of string to find his way out of the Minotaur's labyrinth, and a sword to kill the Minotaur. Theseus succeeds and he runs off with Ariadne and the rest of the slaves and heads back to Athens.

Finals
Both of my finals were inspired by photos I had taken when I was in Italy.
After lots of mental breakdowns in trying to pick the best photos, I was brought back to two photos from locations that literally took my breath away.
My first final took be about 14 hours, and consists of Colored pencil, outlining markers, and graphite pencil.
This, being a more developed piece from on of my sketchbook drawings, is one of the streets we walked down near the Duomo. I find it so awe-inspiring to see that massive building looming over the landscape where ever you walk around Florence, so persuaded me to try to portray that.
The next one is my bigger project; this was the scene from the top of the tower in Vernazza looking at an edge of the town. I spent about 28 hours on this big drawing, making sure I got it as accurate as I can and trying to catch the feel of the scene as well. This is all various hard graphite pencils, and lots of smudging.
I also will put on some of my favorite sketchbook drawings.
Thanks!~
I hope you all are having a great summer!
